About SetbackIQ

SetbackIQ answers a homeowner’s first question before a backyard project: do I need a permit, and where on my lot can this go? Enter an address and a project, such as a shed, deck, fence, garage, ADU, pool, solar array or heat pump. We find the parcel, the government that sets its rules, the zoning district and the flood zone, then apply that place’s own rules.

We cover 17 cities and counties in detail. Every other US address gets an answer based on the model building code, marked as lower confidence.

Who publishes it

SetbackIQ is published by Sabi Apps, LLC, an independent software company in Baltimore, Maryland. It isn’t affiliated with any city, county or state government, and no government endorses it.

How we check the rules

Every rule links to the city or county page or code section it came from, shows the date a person last checked it, and carries a confidence level. When official sources disagree, we say so. Read how we verify rules or see every place we cover.

SetbackIQ is general information, not legal or professional advice for any one property, and not a zoning determination. Codes change, so confirm with your local building and zoning offices before you build. See our terms of use.

Advertising

SetbackIQ is free to use. Some content pages may carry ads from Google, labeled “Advertisement.” We never show ads inside the address checker or your results. Advertisers have no say in our answers. See our privacy policy and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
